Faye and I, along with the Unicorn teachers (Miss Maria and Miss Smadar), had an idea and it worked!
We paired the children - one Haifa All Star to one Unicorn. We all met in the Unicorn room. The children were introduced to their book buddy and then sat next to their new friend.
Then we split up and half of the children went with their book buddies to the Haifa classroom with one of their teachers and one Haifa teacher. The other half stayed in the Unciorn room with one of their teachers and a Haifa teacher. Then the children with their buddy picked a book or two to look at together. Some of the children played a game after they were finished looking at books. Then we washed up and had snack with our new friends. During snack we asked the children if they liked book buddies. Everyone thought it was fun. We will do it again in a few weeks to continue to encourage the idea of community at TBSCC.
What a great way to enjoy new friends. . .looks like a success : )
ReplyDeleteJay was talking about this since his sister has buddies at her school. Glad you clarified- that was big help!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing how the concept developed. Looks like a meaningful ongoing experience that will help the kids create connections within their own school community. I look forward to hearing more!
