Who Needs Expensive Toys Anyway?
It's not very expensive, doesn't need batteries, and won't break as soon as you get it home from the store. No, it's not duct tape but close! It's masking tape, and Aden has actually used it to make a mask and more. As I watch children play day after day, I'm convinced that they would be just as happy---and even more creative---with a few simple items at their disposal. On Friday we read Too Many Toys by David Shannon. The children really related to the story of Spencer and his excess of toys. Many of them said that they have so many toys that they can't find something to play with. We talked about the option to give away toys with which they no longer play. Some of the children offered up their siblings' toys but others volunteered their own. Giving away extra toys and books to people in need is a wonderful way to make Tzedakah come alive for our children. Getting back to basics also encourages creativity and imaginative play. It's amazing what fun children can have finding new uses for basic household items.
