A Day with Matisse
Can you think of an artist that didn't use paint, didn't use clay, didn't even use a brush? Later in his life Henri Matisse did his famous cut outs using paper, scissors and glue. Here Josh is showing us how he used the same materials to make a cut out. Everyone can be an artist - it's fun. The artists are asking us to use our imagination to decide what the cut out represents. Matisse didn't sign some of his cut outs so we aren't sure which way to hang them. What did the artist want us to see in his work? Using our imaginations allows us to see different things in the same work of art. Today we discussed what we saw in some of the works in Matisse's jazz series. Some of us saw instruments, people, trees, etc.
