Books are Coming Alive in the Scientist Classroom!

The Scientist class has been very busy going on adventures with our friends Jack and Annie from the Magic Tree House book series all year. We have gone to Egypt, to space, most recently on a pirate ship, and almost anywhere you can imagine. We have been reading these short chapter books in hopes of creating more interest in reading. And from what we can tell, it's working! Each day when we read a few more chapters, the children are on the edge of their seats waiting to see what Jack and Annie will encounter next. We often stop and guess what we think will happen, and we talk about the places they have traveled. As soon as one book is finished, another is requested. We just finished Pirates Past Noon, and today we will be starting Afternoon on the Amazon.

The characters are truly coming alive for the students. Yesterday during free play, Becca mixed the manipulatives we had out in the classroom, and made a ship for Jack and Annie. The ship was keeping them safe on their way back to Frog Creek, Pennsylvania (where Jack and Annie live in the books)!
