Using Set-Ups for Art

Set-ups are another approach in presenting materials to children. A set- up works by placing various materials and objects on a tray. In our case, we put art items on each tray. We put together four identical trays of these materials and then invited the children to come find a tray and sit down. The instructions were then given asking each child to create something utilizing only the things on his/her tray.On each tray was also a regular pair of scissors and a design pair. The children were very enthusiastic about this project and put together completely different creations. Each of the children were very focused on what they were doing and seemed to like the fact that they were not distracted by someone while they were in the process of thinking, cutting, and glueing together their creations. They enjoyed it so much that they asked if they could do it again another day!
