Busy Tuesday

On any school day, the Rainbows interact with one another and with the school environment in many different ways. The children above are playing beside one another on top of the sensory table, using lego vehicles that they have chosen and arranged. They chatted a bit and also traded cars at times while maintaining their individual space and control of their play.
These children are playing together cooperatively, exploring a new game that matches animal mothers with babies, by picture and by sound. The children learned how to make the animals talk and how to search for the babies in the haystack. More important, they were able to take turns, to move the board and pieces so that all could see and reach, and to coach one another in a helpful manner. Each winning match was cheered by all.

The children also spend time in individual pursuits, building, working with craft materials, painting at the easel for as long as they wish, and of course, reading. The Rainbows make choices about their play throughout the school day and are comfortable moving from one area to another as interests lead them.
