Dry Sponge Emergent Curriculum
As any parent knows when you give a child a gift, it's often the ribbon or box that your child finds more fun than the present. And as teachers, we plan and set-up our classrooms thoughtfully and with care...but sometimes it's something we hadn't even thought about that most interests children. That's just what happened this week in the Levana classroom. Olivia found some dry sponges and used them like an eraser on our apple poem poster at the easel. She had the best time choosing just the right sponge to rub up and down. When we asked her if she'd like to get them wet, she said, "no". The best curriculum emerges when children find something that peaks their interests. We'll definitely be using sponges next week- dry ones and wet ones.
