"What do you want to play today?" I asked Nathan this morning. "Ellen, I can't play! I have to work. I'm making a plan!" Nathan told me excitedly. Nathan explained that he and his sister Sophie are working to get money for the temple because they want to help build a new building. We wrote out all of Nathan's idea: a car wash and a lemonade stand. Then Nathan explained that "when grown ups go to a meeting to decide who will be the president of the temple, kids could do that, too!"
"Why are you trying to get money?" I asked. Nathan had his pitch ready. "We need money so we can get another floor so we could have more classes up there. We need more toys on the playground. And a sink in our classroom. We are going to have to get a lot of money for this! Good thing we have a lot of ideas! My sister had a lot of ideas. The lemonade stand was my idea. We can have a disco party. Sophie and I will give out the tickets. It will be called "Kids are Helping Raise Money for the Temple."
Later in the morning, I walked by the classroom and Nathan was waiting at the door, "Ellen, come back, I have more ideas I need to write down!" So write we did and the brainstorming continued. Nathan is working on a science event with a $16 admission price, an art sale, a milk stand for babies (since they can't drink lemonade), and even a project where he will make a cake for anyone who will give him $20.
What an amazing thinking process! I look forward to hearing more of Nathan's ideas tomorrow.
Ellen, I really appreciate that you are taking this seriously. The kids were inspired by Josh's work on the Mikdash committee and want to help. They are super excited!
