Fox Walked Alone

Have you read the story Fox Walked Alone by Barbara Reid? From the publisher's description:
Fox woke up. Slipped out of his lair. Looked. Listened. Sniffed. There was something in the air… Usually Fox sleeps in the day and hunts alone at night, but today something strange is happening. Two by two, different animals pass by - mice and tortoises, leopards, wolves, and birds. Fox decides to follow along on this mysterious journey. It leads to a boat resting on a dusty plain - and to someone Fox never expected.

It was fascinating to watch these three and four year olds listen to this story. They sat entranced, listening to the tale as Fox encountered animal after animal. The illustrations in this book are something truly special and when asked, the children tried to figure out how they were made. They had so many ideas! Was it paint? Was it marker? No, it was something different. We looked and looked. "It's playdough!" Josh said. Yes, indeed. Barbara Reid created these amazing illustrations from colored plasticine. The intricate details of the illustrations draw you into the story.  Be sure to check it out next time you visit the library!
