Shabbat B'reishit

After giving tzedakah and saying the blessings, Sylvia told the children the story of B'reishit -- Creation, the first parashah in the Torah, which is read on Simchat Torah and this Shabbat.  She explained that in the beginning there was nothing and then God said "let there be light..."   The children were fully engaged as Sylvia drew pictures to represent the seven days of Creation.  We concluded by singing a song about working for six days and then resting on Shabbat.  It was certainly a meaningful way to welcome Shabbat!
