Excitement shining in her eyes, Mia approached the loose parts table for another round of creative construction. "I'm building a volcano," said Mia. She was shaking with anticipation as she gathered her supplies, a Styrofoam egg carton, a little green lid, glue, and orange tape. "This is the important part," she noted, carefully adding drops of glue inside the cap. A few minutes later, when asked how the volcano was going, Mia explained that her plan had shifted and she was now working on a truck. These loose parts are giving children the chance to really be creative, planning, adapting, and constructing, experiencing the whole process of invention and innovation.
It is such a pleasure to watch our children when they become so intense and invested in a project. What an inspiration to us as adults. We should slow down and become so passionate about something so fun and creative! And shake when we are really excited on occasion! :)
