Fun with Kapla Blocks!

Today the children had the opportunity to to play with Kapla blocks. As the children explored, we noticed how they used the materials. Some of the children built a "thing" while others built simply to find out what the materials do. Sitting with the children and observing their block play gives them a clear message that you value and acknowledge what they are doing.

The teachers sat with the children as they played/explored with the Kapla blocks. Some children chose to explore alone while others asked a teacher to coach them as they had something specific in mind they wanted to build. Sam announced ,"I am building a balance beam!" Teddy Fox responded from the snack table,"Sam, that is cool!" Mia said, "Lauri! Look I made a butterfly and a siren. Can you put it on the blog!" Teddy Fox asked a teacher for help because he wanted to build a "train that looks real." Let me tell you, it was challenging work; we built the train by placing blocks horizontally across vertical supports. The Tel Aviv All Stars can't wait until tomorrow's block play! Hip Hip Hooray!
