Teaching empathy at the Children's Center

It isn't until a few years after the early childhood years that most children reach the cognitive stage where they can really understand the concept of empathy. In the meantime, school provides the perfect opportunity for children to practice being empathetic to each other. When a child falls a scrapes a knee, you'll see us encouraging her classmates to gather around with kind words, back rubs, and offers of band-aids. As the children offer help, they take care of each other, strengthen friendships and practice empathy skills.
