Lacing to Learn

An invitation was ready on the table. A new wooden pumpkin that stood on a solidly, heavy base. The children approached this contraption and noticed it was filled with holes. Lacing strings lay nearby. They carefully used their fingers to push and pull the strings in and out of the holes, building the muscles in their hands, the very muscles they need to strengthen for extended period of writing as they grow.

Look at the focused expressions on their faces as they stuck to the task even when it became frustrating at times when a lace was too short or didn't fit quite how they had imagined, building their frustration tolerance in a safe and comfortable way.

Come see this new addition to our classroom and watch us at work.
