All good things must come to an end, so today the Kohavim children took down our beloved Sukkah. During our first morning meeting we talked about the process of dismantling the Sukkah. Sam said: "We just do it backwards. We take off the tape and unroll it. Then we take the top off. We get the end of the hammer and knock off the nails." The group agreed that this sounded like a good plan. A number of the children suggested that we could hammer the bent nails "backwards" to get them out. Teddy Friedman thought a chainsaw might come in handy but he was just kidding. Hadley noticed that we needed to take the decorations off before doing anything. Mia suggested that we use scissors to cut the paper walls. The children all worked very hard to follow through with their plan. By the end of the morning we were able to safely store the pieces of a wood to possibly use another time. It was great to have the children completely involved in the entire process of building the Sukkah, meeting in it all week, and finally taking it down at the end of the holiday. It will surely feel as if something is missing in our room...
What great ideas! So cool that you had the kids do this part rather than just doing it over the weekend. Looks like the take down was just as thoughtful and filled with learning as the construction.
