This morning on the playground was filled with great ideas. Someone had thrown the red bucket up on the hill above the wall and out of reach. Since many of the children wanted to play with the red bucket, they started devising plans as to how to get the bucket down. Once they realized that their arms were just not long enough to reach, they looked around and began using other tools. Here are some of the ideas that they used.
Here the kids are trying to break down the wall so the bucket would roll back to them.

Somebody realized that the rakes and the shovels were good arm extenders, and could potentially help them in reaching the bucket.
Some of the girls came up to me after seeing some children working and asked "What are they doing?" When I explained what was happening, they eagerly joined in the cause.
Trying to use the shovels as longer arms and hands didn't seem to reach the bucket, but it did help the children get down a few balls that had been thrown up there.
So even though the retrevial of the red bucket was unsuccessful with the different tools and teachers that were used, the children were able to use their problem solving skills and cooperation to come up with new ideas!
great photos! wonderful seeing all the children working so hard together!
ReplyDeleteThanks for taking us through this scene step by step. I love that you allowed them to work through the situation even though they didn't get the bucket.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for posting this! Isaac was telling me about trying to break down the wall on the playground and the other ideas they had, but I couldn't quite understand what was going on.
