Purim Puppet Theatre
After hearing several versions of the story of Esther, Ahasuerus, Mordecai and Haman, the Sunshine children were eager to put their own spin on the Purim story. Using the stick puppets, the children took turns playing the different roles, without concern for the gender of the character. Interestingly, some children, like the menacing Eli, love playing Haman, while others decline the role of bad guy entirely. When not playing a character 'on stage', the children play an important role with their active audience participation; our graggers are being put to good use and add to the fun and excitement of telling, hearing, and re-enacting this tale.

This has been such a treat to watch! I've been lucky to catch glimpses of it each day.
ReplyDeleteIt is truly amazing how capable young children are of understanding, participating, and learning a story, when we give the tools and opportunities to practice.
ReplyDeleteWhat fun. The first day they started talking about this, Eli got in teh car and said "Haman is a bad man"! How funny that he likes to pretend to be haman with the puppets. He has truly enjoying learning about this holiday!
ReplyDeleteAli had been talking about this nonstop. It is such a great activity that so hits the spot in the curious, evolving minds of these four year olds.
