Books, Books, Books

Books, and reading, have always been an important part of the Scientist classroom. The children love to look through our Children's Encyclopedia, and delight in listening to the adventures of Jack and Annie in the Magic Tree House series by Mary Pope Osborne. Dr. Seuss is always a favorite to listen to - his stories and rhymes are so much fun!

Our adventures with books and reading have often been during our large group circle time. Also, some of the children choose to look at books, or to have a book read to them individually, during free choice time (Of course, this individual choice usually becomes a small group, as the sounds of a book being read just naturally attract other children to come and listen!).

Lately, we have begun our free choice time with a very short period of quiet, individual reading time. As you can see, many of the children love books, and enjoy that quiet time to become immersed in looking at their very own book, turning the pages only when they are ready. And it will be so wonderful to watch the children's reading adventures grow as they grow and develop!
