What is the 'meaning' of my Name

Posted by Picasa
We will be featuring all the children and the history of their names. The excitement and curiosity surrounding words and language that this simple exercise, on back to school night, has ignited has been amazing.

For example: while eating apples, "What is the Hebrew for apples?" we were asked. Luckily Rohan was there to offer the translation. Apple is tapuach in Hebrew. Thank you Rohan for your help with translating for us. I am sure there will be many more words we need translated!!!

The pride they feel as well in their own name has been wonderful. Many of your children are asking to read their 'history' again and again. Then the curiosity about names, has now been extended to the history of Maria and Melissa, not only our names but the names of our pets. I casually mentioned I had 2 pets, Stormy and Cocoa. Then came the inquiry from your children: WHY did I name them Stormy and Cocoa? I was curious, myself as to why THEY thought about the reason behind my selection of my pets' name. Their responses were great and so very logical. 1) Stormy is named Stormy because "he likes storms". 2) Cocoa is named Cocoa because "he likes coconuts" 3) Stormy is named Stormy because " he likes hot chocolate." 4) They are named Stormy and Cocoa because "I just wanted to name them that." I am very excited to sit and participate in their wonder of words!!!

  1. A beautiful project! I think this is one the children will remember far into the future.
