Another Side to Legos

If there is one thing to know about the Scientists, it's that Legos are an integral part to our daily lives in class. The Legos come out just about every day and they are a great way to create a new world. Many times the Legos are dominated by the boys, but the girls jump right in often as well.
I've been very taken by their creations, and yesterday I asked if I could draw some of them. It was a great time to have one-on-one time with each child. I got to spend time having them explain the intricacies of their ships, as well as see their faces light up as they see their creations coming to life on paper.
After I finish a drawing I ask my student if they want to add something, or if they want to add color to the drawings. The students are very excited about this process, and I'm being asked more and more to draw their Lego people or their ships.
After I've drawn the creation and they have colored in the drawing, I take a picture of the creator with the creation and the finished picture. This process gives me a chance to see into the minds of our little architects and join in a creative process that had previously been shared with just peers, and I can't wait to see what they will make next!
