A Doctor's Visit!

Today the Scientist class was very lucky to have Alex's dad, Matt, come in and talk about what he does! Matt is a hand, wrist, and elbow doctor that has even worked on some of the parents of our students! The Scientists got to see a slideshow filled with X-rays, as well as having the opportunity to see models of what the inside of arms look like, and a fake skeleton. They learned about how Alex's dad fixes bones with casts, screws, plates, and surgery. Our students listened very closely and asked excellent questions to learn more about his job.
We also got to have a first hand look at how bones are fixed, and were able to put plates and screws onto the arm skeleton.
Teddy with a Big Head was our patient today in the Scientist class, and he was in need of a cast. Alex helped his dad set Teddy's arm bones back into place and put on the cast that will keep his arm in place until it heals.

Thank you Alex for sharing your dad with us, and thank you Matt for coming in and sharing you work with us!
