I can help !!!

It is early morning drop off time, and we are getting the room set up. The first item on my agenda is to set up snack, which involves providing a visual of what the class is having. Today, I just was not ready; I had not prepared the fruit visual. Oranges (clementines) were the fruit.
Nathaniel (Kohavim class) and Rachel (Tel Aviv class) offered to help. Each were given a piece of cardboard and the process began.

What did they need? After carefully observing the orange, they came to the conclusion they needed an orange marker and/or crayon to begin. Nathaniel wanted to be very precise in his illustration; the size had to be just right. Rachel initially said, "I can't do it. I don't know how." After providing some clues, such as asking her what shape it was, she responded "circle" and then said, "but I can't draw a circle," to which I responded, "Just try".. and voila, she did it and was so proud!

Often, children know how, but just need the time to work through the steps.
I asked Nathaniel if he would like to write the word for the orange. I asked him what sounds he heard when he said "orange." He heard O R J. So off he went and created our visual for our snack.
Thank you Nathaniel for all your hard work.
When learning comes from the interests of the children, it is so much more powerful.

  1. Rock on, Nathaniel and Rachel! I bet their work will spur many other requests to help prepare for the day! What a rewarding experience for the children!
