More on the Home/School Book Connection

Last week Eliana spotted a book in our Levana classroom that she also has at home. She was excited to share It's Challah Time with her classmates, and brought it to the table where some children and teachers were working with play-dough. We love to fit a book in with any activity, so we read and shared the pictures while continuing to play. Some very attractive loaves of challah were inspired by the picture book. We encourage children to bring in favorite books from home; it helps us to nourish the home-school connection and we learn a lot about one another through this sharing.

  1. What a great way for the children to share a little piece of themselves and their family lives.

Plus, I love anything that has to do with that book. I taught the kids in that book 11 years ago so it brings back lots of good memories! I treasure the copy they all signed for me. Try the whole wheat challah recipe in the back. It's a favorite of mine.

  2. thanks for sharing this!! Eliana just recently got that book in the mail through the PJ library. She actually keeps that book in our bedroom. In the mornings when she wakes up she comes in our bed and reads books while we get ready - that is one that she reads literally every morning. She must have loved seeing it at school too! We love this blog and all the bits of her days we learn through it - thanks for taking the time to post.
