It is War

Today in free choice time we brought out a deck of cards.  Sam and Drew wanted to play cards with me but they didn't know how.  What a perfect teachable moment.  I said I would teach them how to play War.  In such a simple game there is so much to learn.  Which card is higher?  In this picture Sam won with the Queen.  Which is higher 5 or 6 or is that a 9? Let's count the diamonds to see if it is a 6 or 9.  This was a lot of fun with a little math on the side.
