A Week of Buiding and Creating

Throughout this week, the Haifa All Stars have been busy building and creating sites related to the Passover Story. Our week began by putting together a city. We painted the main support of our city and then using sugar cubes and plastic little containers we created buildings. In conjunction with this we talked about how the Israelites were slaves to the Pharaoh and how hard they worked to build for him. When our city was completed we wrote a story called "Egypt Land City". We decided on the title by giving suggestions and then voting on the one we liked best. It was nearly a unanimous vote for the title "Egypt Land City"

Our next project was to create the Sea of Reeds. We used a big plastic tub and put foam on the bottom. Then using kabobs sticks we put on foam pieces and tape to enhance the reeds. We made some of them so that frogs could sit on them. On the bottom of the sea we also put in red foam to create the reason the sea is also called The Red Sea. We read books about the sea and talked a great deal about Moses and his being placed in a basket when he was a baby and being found and raised by the Pharaoh's daughter.

An interesting topic that came up a couple of times by the children was the question, "Where is G-d?" The children were fascinated by this discussion and easily and openly talked about their ideas about the topic. Their feelings about G-d and what he or she is and does was truly amazing and enlightening to listen to and of which to be a part!

  1. Wow. The God conversation sounds really interesting. Where did they decide God is?
