Finger Paint Exploration

The Rainbows really enjoyed finger painting today. The kids experienced this type of painting in many different ways. Some kids wanted to paint with only one color at a time while others wanted to mix all the colors together. Some kids wanted several colors at a time but did not want to mix them on their paper. What was also interesting to watch was the way the kids painted. At first Audrey did not want to get her hands dirty so I suggested she paint using a plastic spoon as a paintbrush. She readily agreed to this suggestion, and after about a minute of using the spoon, she decided to use her finger. Some kids painted using only one hand while others used both. Some kids only used one finger while others used their whole hand. Those who painted with one hand noticed very quickly that if they did not keep one hand on their tray it would slide around on the table. Balancing the tray with one hand and painting with the other was not an easy task. The kids persisted and finished with lots of pictures. They enjoyed painting so much that most of them painted two or three pictures!
