Why Do We Cover the Challah?

Where was the challah? It was hiding under the cover. "Why do we cover the challah?" asked Rabbi Todd and we all wondered the same. Each Friday, we first light the Shabbat candles, then say the blessing over the grape juice. The blessing ovre the challah comes last. Rabbi Todd told us the story of how the challah would feel sad to be last, so we cover it up to protect its feelings. Then, when it is time to bless the challah, we uncover it for it's own moment of fame. Then Rabbi Todd invited the Levana class up to the bima to help sing HaMotzi, the blessing over bread.
