Each morning when our Scientists come in the room, they know exactly what to do! We always start our morning with our journals. The students have been working on these each day they have been in school, working on a new page each day. After signing in out in the hall, they come in and find their journal, which has been placed somewhere on our two tables.
The Scientists can draw whatever they want in their journals. The one constant thing in each journal is the date. We have the students date the pages so we can see what day they drew which picture. It's nice to look through the journals and see the progressions the children have made throughout the year.
After the student is done drawing, he or she will come find a teacher, and they will dictate a story to go along with the drawing. Afterwards, they give themselves a stamp that either say "Great Work!" or "Good Job!" and draw lines for the date for the next day.
After journal time, it's time to start our day!
