Friends had to follow a certain sequence.. first they selected a big piece of glass, working carefully to grab it just right so that they would not cut themselves on the edges. Then they proceeded to select the smaller colored pieces and arrange them in a manner that was visually pleasing to them. Once glued on then Ellen fired them in her kiln. The second picture on the right is the finished product once it has been heated for six hours. Absolutely stunning. These will be placed on the auction block on a frame on May 7

They were very curious about how hot the kiln would get. "Is it hotter than an oven? Is it hotter than the sun?" And they noted the word fire when I explained that I would fire the glass. "How are you going to put fire on it?" they wondered. What curious kids!
ReplyDeleteGiving them the opportunity to work with a real artistic medium is a very powerful experience. I bet they will be proud of the finished product!
