The Musical Frog
Entering the newly named Kohavim classroom, I heard a beautiful sound. As Maria stroked the back of a wooden frog with a stick, the sound filled the room and the children turned to see what the signal meant. It was time to transition to the next activity. When I was a young child, these sorts of transitions were always signaled with blinking lights, which was jarring and startling, but certainly did get our attention. I love the thoughtful way our teachers plan transitions, considering a signal that is different enough to get the children's attention, yet soothing and peaceful enough to preserve the comfortable feeling of the classroom.
