Cutting Up

The Levana children are beginning to use scissors and are enthralled by the process and by the scissors themselves. On Wednesday, we used lightweight loop scissors that require just a little pressure between fingers and thumb in order to close the blades. The handle automatically opens the blades after each cut. These can be used either right or left-handed and help to develop hand strength and grasping ability. After Adam's first try, he said emphatically, "I can't do it." Within seconds, he repositioned his hand and the paper slightly, and issued an update: "I'm doing it!"

  1. Yesterday we had some friends over and the kids were all doing art stuff. Mia shouted to me (though I was standing right there), "Adam's using scissors!!! (short pause) I told him it was okay but I wanted you to know he was doing it." I had a feeling he was using them in school, but I was very impressed with his ability to cut around an entire piece of paper. He was sooo proud! Thanks for giving him the opportunity to learn a very important skill!

  2. I'm k'velling! Thanks for this window into a moment of learning and celebration of new accomplishment. Thanks, as well, for making the entire experience possible for our little guy and his wonderful classmates!
