What is this?

What could the mystery tool be? It was little, with a clear tube and a black handle. The Rainbow kids were introduced to an eye dropper. Handy for eye drops, but also great for science. You might have thought we were painting, but in reality it was much more of a science experiment as children explored the droppers. How do you get the paint inside? How do you get it out?
