The Challenge

We put out a picture of a 'house' built with straws. Joshua, Oliver, and Sam looked at the design carefully and Sam said "it's like a blueprint" and off they went to build. Lots of planning and cooperation was needed. The plan.. deciding where to start and what to build first, the front, or the sides What?? They started with the front. How many squares were needed?  Three, no four were needed!! Then what to do next? Do they build UP, building one wall at a time, or build the entire bottom first? Oh the decisions. Then came wall number one. Oh no it wasn't staying up? What to do? These architects persisted in their efforts through trial and error and cooperation. Then what else is needed? It needs a door, but where should we put it? The front, the back? Finally, "it's perfect' and ready for occupancy. Oh, no, only ONE person can fit comfortably, but TWO could squeeze in, but three people build this house and all wanted to live in it. What to do? Joshua decided he could put in his OWN room, and started to build his addition, in the back of the house. Then Oliver wanted HIS own room, and off he went to build his addition on the side of the house. Oh, my ANOTHER problem, it was 11:20 a.m. and we needed to clean up. They worked soooo hard, could we save it? HUM, well we couldn't save it on the floor,  because we share this space, so what could we do? Well, we could move it. Then the question came as to how we would do it. After some thought, they said if we put two people on both sides, it could be moved on top of a table. So ever so carefully, the lifted and S L O W LY moved it. But OH NO, it Collapsed!!! Lot of oh no, it didn't work... Luckily we could put it on the BLOG and have a picture of it and the could build another one tomorrow. Great life skills learned here.. Stay tuned for slide show w/ showing the process.
