Mother Earth
Dear Children:
I am writing this letter to ask for your help. Do you know who I am? I am mother earth. I am more than just the planet earth. I am your home. And like you, I am very special. I need to be loved and cared for, just like you!
Looking at an ocean, what could we do to help keep it clean? "Not throw trash in it" they responded. Has anyone heard of oil spills in the ocean?
Lunch bunch boys and girls explored the ocean and what would happen to the ocean animals when there is a spill. We similated the ocean by using water, rocks, oil, and paprika (to make visual of the oil) We asked the children to look at what happened to the oil once mixed into the water. Did it mix together?
How could we clean it up? We tried Q-Tips and paper. How long would it take?" Forever, a million years." Then we put feathers in the water and noticed that the feathers got very heavy and saturated with the oil. WOW, can you imagine how hard it would be for our ocean creatures to swim and survive?
