Tools in our Every Day

Yesterday, a note went home in the backpacks of the Haifa class. The note was very simple. It stated that we were studying tools in school and that we would like to bring in a tool from home to share with the class. It could have been anything, and today during circle time, we found a little bit of everything! While hammers were popular tools, we also got to see a vegetable steamer, a cherry/olive pitter, a construction hat, measuring tape, watermelon scoop, stud finder, and even a coal train!

Each student got the chance to share the tool that he or she brought in and tell the class what it is used for. During music this morning, we realized that even our voices can be tools to help us sing! I really enjoy seeing the look on a child's face when they realize the true definition of a word, and the world opens up to them. This is what is happening in our class. The students are starting to realize that while we use tools for construction and home improvement, we also use tools to do just about anything!
