Taking care of our Birds
Kohavim boys and girls continue explore ways in which we can help our world. Oliver had shared with the class that "in the winter birds need to work really hard for their food." What could we do to help?
We presented the children with the opportunity to make bird feeders. In the process not only are we teaching the importance of caring for others, but also concepts of cooperation, math, and literacy. In following a recipe we will ask the children to look at the visual recipe displayed and ask them to help us with the recipe. What do they see that we need as ingredients? They are learning to count and subtract in a meaningful way. We often ask, "We need 3 cups of bird seed, we added one, how many more do we need?"
After carefully pulling the pipe cleaner thru some tiny holes in the bird feeder, we hung them up outside. We are looking forward to seeing if the birds ate those tasty treats.
