This Year in Jerusalem!
Today was an exciting day at the Unicorn room! For the next two weeks the Unicorns are taking a trip to Israel. First the Unicorns each got a passport which they each signed. Then everyone helped build our own airplane to fly in. We made our own flags to decorate the El Al airplane before take off, and we were ready to go!
Everyone took their seats and we all sang songs as we took off on our journey. As the children got on board, everyone had their passports stamped to begin our vacation. Once we took off, the flight attendants served everyone snacks and popsicles for the flight. Zack, who just came back from Israel this year, said that he saw a movie on his flight. During the second half of the flight tomorrow, we are bringing a Hebrew movie to watch. Yes, it is a long way to Israel, but all the Unicorns are good passengers and are looking forward to arriving in time for Shabbat on Friday!
During our stay in Israel we plan to visit the desert in in the south and then travel to Jerusalem and finally to the beach in Tel Aviv. On Thursday, make sure that your traveller brings their bathing suits, towels, sun glasses and beach wear. We will have a sandy beach in the room for everyone to play with. Come back to see more updates (and photos) from our vacation in the Holy Land!

A Fruit Smoothie Stand?
Did someone say fruit smoothies? That's right the Lunch Bunchers made fruit smoothies, banana and strawberry smoothies to be exact! We turned the "lemonade stand" a into a "fruit smoothie stand" for the day! Once again the Scientists helped collect the Tzedakah money and poured the smoothies into cups. We all had one thing to say DELICIOUS!

Playground News!
The weather this week was great! We all had the opportunity to spend a lot of time outside. Recently, I noticed the children are expanding their horizons as they have been more exploratory in their choices of gross motor activities.
Today Teddy Post decided to climb down the jungle gym backwards. One rung at a time he slowly felt for each rung with each foot, until he reached the bottom; toe first then the heal. Aden had fun riding the bikes and hanging on the monkey bars with Issac. Oliver has enjoyed practicing his pumping skills in the swing. Lexi joined us for a game of basketball. Playing outside in the Spring sure is a lot of fun!

Rainbow Auction Item
With glue bottles in hand, our Rainbow children began the creative process for their one-of-a-kind item for the upcoming auction.
As you can see, they were so focused and involved in the first step of this masterpiece.

Our New Play Doh Game
We opened a new game that you use with play dough. Before we could play it, we had to assemble it. It took us awhile to figure out how to put the game together. Besides the pieces, the game comes with four little cans of Play Doh to use. Once we had all the parts ready, we went over how you play the game. It took a while to figure that out too! We thought we had it all worked out so we started to play. It was a long game, but we were all very patient. We realized that we had not played the game in the right direction and had not used the recycle spot as we were supposed to. The next time we play, we will have a better understanding of how this game should go. We all loved learning to play this game!
Our Beautiful School Garden
While we were away on spring break, our school garden on the playground began to really bloom. The pansies, daffodils and even the tulips began to flourish and show their flowers. Yesterday, with the help of Haifa and Scientist friends we planted gladiola bulbs in the garden and in the white plant container up at the drop off area. The tulips that had already been planted in that container are also working their way to flowering. The children are so excited to see their planting endeavors of the fall take shape in our gardens. Stop by if you have a chance to take in the beauty!
Two By Two
Unicorns were busy working on our auction item- Noah's Ark bookends! We read a book about Noah's adventures and we learned a song about Noah and his animals (Rise and Shine). We talked about what an auction is and how we can help our school by making an item for sale that will not go home with us.
It was alot of fun making the animals. We put our bookends in the hall so all the parents can have a chance to bid. In case you will not be attending the event on May 7th, please stop by, check it out and place your bid!

Our Lemonade Stand was a Big Hit!
The Lunch Bunch Lemonade Stand was a big hit! The Scientists, Sunshine/Unicorn, All Star groups all had their part! At our curriculum meeting yesterday the All Stars decided to make a lemonade stand. Today Tel Aviv and Haifa children made fresh lemonade from scratch. The Unicorn/Sunshine friends provided pennies for everyone so they could buy their own cup of lemonade. The money we collected will go directly to Tzadakah. The Scientists were kind enough to organize and run the lemonade stand. (They collected the money and poured the lemonade into cups.)
At peace out time Jesse and Daniel took pleasure in creating a colorful lemonade sign. While we were making the lemonade Aaron started chanting, "Lemonade for sale, fifty cents a cup...Does that sound familiar? Out on the playground we all started chanting, "Lemonade for sale fifty cents a cup!" Making a lemonade stand sure is a lot of fun!
Patterns are Everywhere!
Patterns here patterns there patterns are everywhere! In Lunch Bunch the children have been spending a lot of time creating patterns with beads and letters as the make their own jewelry. Today in movement class with Nancy, the children created patterns as they moved across the room...Gallop, hop, run! Today Sam Royal pointed out the patters he created on a piece of wood with glitter glue. Sam was pleased with himself as he explained a bit about his patterns. "This is a dotted pattern red, silver, red and this is a line pattern silver, red, silver!" Out on the playground the children take turns with the kids camera, and create patterns as they take turns Josh, Jay, Sam...

An Ant Farm
Jacob and Ryan take a close look at the latest addition to our classroom - an ant farm. The children waited patiently for these ants to arrive in the mail. We can watch as these tiny creatures work hard and co-operatively to create tunnels. When the ants were given water, the children laughed and enjoyed the idea of the ants thinking it was raining. Our goal is to reinforce the concept that the tiniest living things in our world deserve our respect and awe. All of life is amazing.
Feeding the Hungry
Once again our Sunshine Chefs have made a tuna-noodle casserole for Rosie's Place.
As a special bonus, they prepared a second box of elbow pasta with cheese to enjoy for snack. The children ate every last noodle with exclamations of this is "delicious", "yummy" and "can I have more?"

Lunch Bunch Goes Fishing
The warm and sunny summertime weather got our lunchbunchers into thinking about fishing. So they created some rods with the straw manipulatives and caught some "fish" at the water table.
Dylan caught a fish. You should have seen the one that got away!
Leo takes a moment to look at a book while fishing.
Jayden the Gardner
Faye, the All Star teacher, was looking for help with her garden today. Jayden excitedly volunteered to help plant about 20 bulbs in the Temple Beth Shalom Children Center's garden. Jayden is not afraid to get her hands dirty or to learn a new task. Once Faye showed Jayden how to plant one bulb, Jayden was then on her own and proceeded to plant the remaining 19 bulbs. Thank you Jayden for all your help in making our garden more beautiful!

Noah the Ptotographer
During our outdoor time today Noah asked if he could be the photographer and take pictures of his friends and teachers. Sure why not, it is always fun to see how a five year old views the world. Not only did he take several pictures of his surroundings, but he also gave directions as to how we should pose. Nice job Noah!!

Weclome back to school
The Haifa All Stars happily returned after our extra long spring vacation. We spent lots of time outdoors playing and some friends used the discovery tires. When indoors, we had a surprise birthday party for Sauci, got a potato experiment together, and did beautiful scratch pictures to send to our Israeli penpals.
We also began talking about our next trip which is to Africa. We will go this adventure starting today. We also noticed that our outdoor gardens are really starting to bloom! We look forward to all that spring and our class activities will bring us the remainder of the year!

How to make colorful rocks...
Tubes, funnels, cups and colored water it doesn't get better then that! Sam called my name from across the room, "Lauri look at our underground water tubes with red chemicals in it!" I ask Sam, "What are the chemicals used for?" Sam said, "They are bad chemicals, the chemicals are poison, they can kill people!" Then Sam and Josh started pouring the water back and forth, from one cup to another. They experimented by pouring the water into the tubes first, they filled a cup up with water/chemicals and then poured it into the funnel and watched as the water made it's way out of the tube, at the other end. Josh said excitedly as the water came out, "Look it's shooting out", as it splattered out of the tube. At one point in their play Josh said, "This is how you make colorful rocks!"
