We say good bye to Shabbat and welcome the new week on Mondays. We sing with joy wishing each other "A good week, a sweet week, a week of happiness and joy. We participate in the ritual of blessing the wine, smelling sweet spices ( usually cinnamon sticks) and lighting the candles. This week we celebrated Havdalah a bit differently, taking time to develop our own 'sweet' packages. Ellen provided a variety of spices with different smells and each child was able to select, grind, and smell the spices until it was just right for them. What are our hopes for the week and what is it that brings happiness and energizes us till the next Shabbat celebration? What brings sweetness to one person may not be the same for another. Looking forward to learning what things your children are looking forward to as the weeks progress.

They get such wonderful opportunities to truly engage in experiences. They are constantly doing, feeling, smelling, and thinking.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic opportunity for the kids to be working on something collectively while also being able to create to their own liking. Love the link to "what do I want to bring into the week ahead?". Excellent way to make ritual personal and meaningful.
