Friends were off and running to respond to any emergency. We provided the children with several emergency scenarios to extend their thinking and problem solving skills.Cats were stuck in trees, ducks in the mud, pigs in farm doors, monkeys falling from the bed, horse stuck in the trash, cat in trouble building on fire, cat dropped in the sink, snake in the toilet, and sisters leg stuck.
Some of these rescue ideas were teacher initiated but the "how to" complete the rescue was entirely child initiated as were some of the emergencies.
Eli said, "I'm going to get a little ladder, just to climb up and rescue the cat." Drew said he would rescue the cat by pushing it out, Max said that he would take the monkeys who fell off the bed to the hospital, Sadie said she would rescue the snake stuck in the toilet by "shooing him away~maybe use a stick, a pen, then bring him to his house in the zoo or the farm," Lily said that she would "pull the horse out of the mud and carry him out" then Sadie said, "maybe we should open the trash." The duck stuck in the mud, would be "carried out" said Jacob. Jake said that he would "take her down," take her leg out, then my mommy is going to come help me." Zack would save the dog in the fire, he would "try to find him, catch him, spray the fire out, then get him out." Rylan said he would save the cat in trouble in the fire by, "going up the ladder, put out the fire, save him and bring him down to his mommy." Lily F. said she would just "carry" the the dog stuck in the mud.
Thank goodness for these Unicorn Firefighters who came to the rescue of sooo many emergencies!
