Working together

At Lunch Bunch yesterday, the scientists decided to take advantage of the unusually warm and sunny weather! We took a lovely walk to Avery Park to enjoy the wide open space.

In the top picture, Jonathan, Jayden, Naomi, and Alex are working together to build a small fairy house. Because it is small and fragile they have to carefully take turns adding twigs and acorns. They work patiently, each person adding small pieces at a time, until they decide their creation is complete.

While building our small fairy house, Noah and Becca came up with a great idea. They wonder if they might be able to build a life size fairy house. Noah, Becca, Lucas, and Jayden begin gathering larger sticks. When we carry larger sticks, we have to be very careful to stay safe and communicate with each other, so no one gets unintentionally poked. Noah and Becca use teamwork and positive communication to decide how to best carry this large stick. They also communicate with Lucas who stays nearby in case they need help. Before long, the whole class was helping out!

  1. I also had the pleasure of observing the fairy house project. Another interesting component was the discussion of whether fairies are real. This was a hotly debated issue, with some insisting they are not, and others equally sure they were. Then Lucas mentioned that the tooth fairy is a fairy, and suddenly the whole group was convinced that fairies are real.
