A water experiment

The room was abuzz with excitement for the experiment being conducted that morning. Arriving at school, many of the children had announced the temperature recorded on their car's thermometer. "It's 0 outside! It's 1 degree today! It's 2 degrees!" We weren't sure exactly how cold it was, but one thing was for sure, it was freezing! The children filled cups with varying amounts of water and set them right outside the classroom door. What would happen?

Every half hour during the morning the checked the cups to see. At first, only the smaller ones were frozen. When it was almost time to go home, Alison brought the cups inside again and everyone gathered around to feel the results and get a close look. Ask your child what happened.
