We staged our own boycott on Friday. The children picked slogans for their signs from a list which we had all put together during circle time. After finishing the posters, we marched through the school visiting some classes and the main office in the temple. As we marched we proclaimed, "No Buses". During the week, we also sang a song that we learned about Dr. King.

No More Buses
With the upcoming birthday of Martin Luther King, the Haifa All Stars spent this week discussing the significance that Dr. King played in our lives. A large part of our discussion was focused on Rosa Parks and her resistance to giving up her seat on the bus in Montgomery, Alabama . In response to her arrest, Dr. King and others organized a boycott during which people of color did not use the buses in Montgomery for over a year until the laws were changed.

This is so great--I think the "march" really made the learning come to life. Josh enjoyed learning about MLK a lot.
ReplyDeleteJesse couldn't wait to put up his sign. He learned so much this week. . .I even got a private viewing of the march at home.
