How Plants Drink!

How do plants drink water- Cut off the bottoms of a celery stalk and/or carnation. Soak them in water for a hour, then put them in a glass that contains a strong dye solution (food coloring).
Before we started the experiment I asked the children, "What will happen when we change the water to blue or red, after we add the food coloring?"
  • Aden- "The flowers will close or die."
  • Aaron- "I think the flower will turn blue."
  • Nathaniel-"The celery will change color."
  • Sam-"The celery will turn yucky!"
Then I asked them,"How long will it take for the flowers/celery to turn color?"
  • Aden-"1 minute."
  • Mia- "1 hour."
  • Isaiah-"Until tomorrow."
  • Nathanial-"4 weeks."
  • Sam-"1 hour."
Stay tuned for a full report tomorrow (weather permitting)!
