1 medium-long, thin carrot, slice into thin rounds
tiny cherry tomatoes, whole or sliced in half
1 small bell pepper, any color, thinly sliced
1 very small cucumber sliced into thin rounds
other possibilities:
grated carrot (rather than sliced)
grapes sliced in half
raisins
clementines
apples
1 small container whipped cream cheese
1 or 2 bagels cut in half
1) Arrange the vegetables in small bowl on a table
2) Spread cream cheese on the bagel haves.
3) Decorate and eat!
We asked the children how is your bagel face feeling today?
- Isaiah-"Sad because I am going to eat it!"
- Sam-"Happy, that's why he has a happy face."
- Teddy F- "I'm going to make mine to take home for my Mom."
- Hadley- "Mine is happy, and I'm going to eat mine all up!"
- Eric-"I love all this stuff, and mine is happy!"
I absolutely love this activity! What fun! And it completely goes along with the feelings unit. What an amazing skill/awareness/understanding to be sharing with our children. Tonight, Mia and I read The Hello Goodbye Window in which the narrator shares that when her parents come to pick her up at her Nana and Poppy's house, she is very happy to see them but also feels sad to leave her grandparents. Mia connected that to how she felt sad when she was waiting for me to get home but happy to be playing with Suzy. She seemed very excited by the prospect of being able to feel two things at once. I suggested that she share it with her teachers!
