When I opened my suitcase, Flat Stanley jumped out and did a little dance. "That was a long trip!" he told me. He stretched his flat body and yawned. Boy was he glad to be out from between my socks.
It was a rainy day in Israel, so I tried to convince Stanley to stay inside, but when he looked out the window, he caught a glimpse of the palm trees and really wanted to see them. "Take me outside!" he said. I was a little worried about Stanley getting wet (he forgot his raincoat!) so I told him he could go out to look, but he had to stay on the balcony.
When Stanley saw the palm trees he was so excited. Palm trees are very important in Israel because they grow in the desert and flourish without much water. Palm trees take a long time to grow and they grow very tall. Flat Stanley remembered that the palm tree is also on the back of the 10 shekel coin in Israel. "Look!" he said, showing me his money. "There are so many palm trees outside, and I have my very own palm tree on this coin right here!"
Ellen, enjoy your trip to Israel!
