Listening to stories

At school we spend a lot of time reading to children.  We read individually, in small groups, and to the class as a whole.  Children love routine, and reading is routine that the children look forward to each day.  We model the joy of reading by choosing books we all enjoy.  Sometimes children want to hear the same story again and again.  As adults we are quickly bored, but children learn from this repetitive process.  In fact, it is  a critical part of learning to read.
