Achashverosh—King of Persia who chose Esther to be his new queen and listened to her pleas to save the Jewish people from Haman’s evil plot.

Haman—Vizier (adviser) of the king of Persia who instigated the plan to destroy the Jewish people.

Mordechai—wise uncle of Esther who raised her and guided her during her reign as queen. He becomes the king’s vizier at the conclusion of the story and instituted the celebration of the holiday.

Vashti—Queen of Persia until she refused to dance for Achashverosh at one of his parties.
