Robert Munsch~ Listening Center

We set up a listening center with one of my favorite authors, Robert Munsch. As one can see from the pictures the children are laughing and truly enjoying the story telling. Robert Munsch, is a great story teller, and his illustrators Robert Martchenko ( most of his books) and Sami Suomalainen really capture the joyful experiences and challenges of childhood. The 'favorite' story the children are enjoying is Mudpuddle. You might want to ask your children about it. It is a story of a little girl, Jule Anne who walks outside one day to find a mud puddle waiting to jump on her. Jule Anne TRIES soo HARD to stay clean. Her mother scrubs her down... puts on a CLEAN NEW SHIRT, CLEAN NEW PANTS, etc. but EACH time Jule Anne goes outside this mud puddle finds her. It's a problem.. This is a great book, that helps children use their imagination, provides them opportunity to laugh at this situation, and also predict/guess what going to happen next. At the end Jule Anne comes up with a trick of her own.!!!
We will be exploring more of his books and perhaps write our own story, and write to him. He currently lives in Canada. He has had a very interesting life, I would encourage you to read his web page.
He has written many books, some classic Robert Munsch are: Mortimer ( his first book), I Will Love you Forever, Stephanie's Ponytail. We have a great selection in the classroom that the children are welcome to take out of our classroom library. Enjoy the discussion with your children about the many stories they have read to date.

  1. I took a look at his web page. He's quite the character and a great storyteller. From what I read, there's a good chance he could visit your classroom.

  2. I love his books! One of my favorites is "Thomas's Snowsuit", which I often think of when the Levana children are getting dressed to go out in the cold.
