Math with the Tel Aviv All Stars!

In a math-rich environment, math possibilities permeate the entire classroom. As children play and create, mathematical concepts emerge naturally. The following images depict the type of mathematical situations that may arise in the various areas in the classroom.

Teddy, Joshua, and Nathaniel took turns carefully and placed apples on the floor and measured the length of their bodies, arms, legs and head with the apples.

It was interesting to observe the children devise their own counting and problem solving strategies. First they guessed the number of apples a body part was, then one apple at a time they placed on the floor , the last step was to count the apples and come up with a number. Everyone had their own style/way of counting.
The beauty of this activity/game was that everyone had fun and felt a real sense of accomplishment!
Food for thought...How many oranges long are you?
