Alana and I met our neighbour today, Cecilia Rosenberg. Cecilia doesn't get out and about very much these days, as she is turning 102 later this month, and she was thrilled to have visitors...especially a small and talkative one like Alana.
Alana and I called ahead to introduce ourselves and ask if we could come by with a Hannukah gift bag for her, and Cecilia replied "I'm here and not going anywhere!" Alana told her "See you soon!"
On our short ride over, Alana and I talked about giving to others (as well as receiving) during this holiday time. Cecilia left the door open for us and we walked right in, Alana was so excited to give her the bag full of goodies, and entered announcing, "Hannukah delivery!"
Cecilia, using her years of experience, moved right into Alana's heart with a simple question: "May I give you a piece of chocolate?"
She asked us to stop by again and often, and promised play time and more chocolate to Alana if we did. Meeting Cecilia was the greatest first night of Hannukah gift we could receive.
Thank you to all of you who volunteered to deliver Hannukah gift bags to Needham residents like Cecilia!
What a beautiful story! Thank you so much for sharing it with us. I love that you took the time to introduce Alana to a generation she probably has no other interaction with. And your description of her excitement for giving reminds me that young children are so capable of being the givers. And wow! 102!
ReplyDeleteI am so proud of both my daughter and granddaughter! They are both my treasured Hanukkah gifts! I am blessed.
